I’ve got enough love for two

Back from vacation and I feel like a new woman! Summer is up and rolling here in my small town of Branson, Missouri and the traffic is killer. SOS!

I WISH I WAS BACK HERE RIGHT NOW!!!

As my vacation has come to an end, I’d like to share with you some highlights of my week long trip to Florida. First off, thank you Wyndham Resorts for having us! Our condo was absolutely beautiful and I had the best view of the ocean from my window. We were beach front and I spent every single day lounging around reading/sleeping while soaking up the sun. I needed this trip like no other. We went to some really fantastic restaurants and had fresh seafood, which is my favorite. I am a fish lover and I could honestly eat crab or shrimp until I die. Mix the two together and I was in HIGH HEAVEN. (Don’t even ask about the food baby.)blog33-

It’s summer! This is my favorite time of the year, driving with the windows down, hair flying in the wind, music playing as the sun sets with the smell of honey suckle around me…. I suppose my country roots are showing. Nevertheless, I am a happy girl. Get me to a place that is hot hot hot and I am good as gold. Thriving > just surviving.

van life

We started our trip two Saturdays ago, loading our bags into the rental car and heading out. With the royal wedding (read my previous blog post!) and a 14 hour drive on my mind, I packed one too many romance novels to pass the time. FYI, I finished them all. Side note: I absolutely love romance novels. I’m not talking the modern day ones. The books I love to read are the ones with Fabio on the front, hair blowing in the wind in the highlands of Scotland. Mark my words, I will be traveling to the Highlands of Scotland to meet the love of my life. Blame it on my childhood. My Yiayia got me started on them when I was about 10 and I can’t seem to put them down. Even as advanced as my philosophy studies have gotten, I still can pick up a romance novel and melt.

Please watch this hilarious skit from SNL. This is basically my life.

I’m obviously only trying to live out my dream of being in a romance novel.

Sun- kissed girls… Thank you Greek skin!

So, as we traveled to the ocean, we went through Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama to land in Panama City Beach, Florida. Ladies and gentlemen, let me tell you, I found myself in the DEEP SOUTH. It was different but then again, I love to travel. I find myself drawn to places soaked with history. We went to dinner on Beale Street at BB King’s Blues Club. Although I claim Alternative Indie as my favorite music genre, I do love a good jazz set. It’s just so sexy. I love how none it makes sense but yet, it works. I sometimes think I view life behind rose colored glasses (when I travel) because I can see the abundant amount of experiences in front of me. The bar was loud and messy with ceiling fans that just didn’t seem to go fast enough, pushing around hot air. The live jazz band from the stage was playing like it was their last night on this earth and the entire environment was just life enhancing. I live for what I experienced in that moment of chaos.

We stayed the night in good ole Tupelo, Mississippi and went on for another 6 hours, stopping at another BBQ joint in Montgomery, Alabama. (Honestly, if you’re in the south, how could you not get BBQ???) FINALLY. FINALLY. We reach the Florida border. My family, a group of people who clap when the plane lands, claps at the end of a movie, and plays games like, who can find the first palm tree when we reach Florida (mom won, just to put it in writing)

We drove up to the beach while it poured rain. Didn’t matter to me. I drove with the windows down, breathing in the smell of the salt water. The air just tastes better. My favorite feeling is the salt on my lips after being at the beach all day. I was so worn out the night we got in, so I made chicken nuggets (because chicken nuggets are important….) and passed out. It was a well deserved sleep.

I woke up the next morning to the sound of waves and seagulls singing. A small sliver of light slipped through the curtains, slowing rousing me away. I laid in my soft nest of sheets and pillows and had to think about where I was. I walked out to the balcony to water the ocean. The sun was up and it was as if I stumbled into paradise. The rest of the day was spent in a canopy on the beach, inviting the rays of the sun to become intimately close to me. I slept, slashed around the ocean, rolled around in the sand as if I had never been so free in my life. About a year ago, I found a small wrinkle line on my forehead, most likely from the many many hours hunched over reading and writing. I am proud to let everyone know that the dark lines under my eyes and the line on my forehead have gone away. I just felt like I could breathe for the first time in a long time. I understand why people go to the beach for their honeymoons. It’s sexy. Duh. And while this was a man-free vacation for me (CAN I GET AN AMEN FROM THE LADIES?), I can honestly see myself going to the ocean with my soulmate one day. It is just one of those experiences I wish to share with someone else.

Thank you, to the sea, the sand, and the sun, for restoring my soul. Thank you to the waves for carrying away my fears, my stress, my worries.
