#MeToo

Happy finals week… We are almost done. I personally have one more exam tomorrow morning and ya girl is finished for the semester. It has gone by so quick and it’s bittersweet.  Y O U  C A N  D O  I T.

strong women

Can we all just take the time to just celebrate badass men and women? How exciting was the Time’s Person of the Year, the #MeToo movement. This is something I struggle with.  What is my personal identity?  Which part of me do I present to the world? I am a minority within my studies and I try very hard to make sure that I am noticed for more than my physical looks. It’s just a pretty face. I want to be known for my mind, for my sincerity to people, and the legacy I leave behind. Having read comments saying that ‘women are asking for it’ by wearing a certain clothing or even just being a woman, I find it extremely disheartening. I am more than the clothes I wear, the hobbies I like, and the stereotype you place on me. Since I began working at 16, I have myself been a victim to the many times when men have thought it was their right to try and grab me or harass me. As a young hostess at a restaurant, there were instances where men would say inappropriate things to me or grab at me. Thankfully, my coworkers protected me and took care of the issues. Being 16, it was shocking. I was at a loss for words. There have been many other instances in my life where people think it is somehow okay to harass another human. It’s not. It wasn’t until I began to realize how passionate I was about my rights and my life, that I found my voice. The link below is to Time’s Person of The Year 2017. I applaud you.

I know. I have felt it all. I don’t like causing trouble. I flee from drama. But let me tell you this, no one has the right to make you uncomfortable. Because I was raised by some tough women, I now know that no one will ever make me feel unsafe or uncomfortable again. I refuse to allow it. I will speak up and I will have my voice heard. Always speak up. Not only are you saving yourself, but you could also be saving someone else in the future.

Thank you to the brave few who came forward so that the rest of us may as well.
