I got back from Little Rock on Tuesday and rushed to get everything ready and organized for my sister and her best friend Macie to come visit me for a few days… it’s always really tiring for me after traveling, especially since Josh and I had such a crazy week planned, so I definitely came home Tuesday and passed out the rest of the day. On Wednesday, after deep cleaning the house because I am a weirdo about having things ready guests, I picked the girls up from the airport, masked up! Pro tip, fly with Delta if possible. They are REALLY good about social distancing and enforcing masks and cleaning. Most of my flights have been with them through this entire thing and I have had really great experiences with them!

Anyways, so the girls… I forgot what it’s like to be around younger people… oh to be 17 again… so carefree, young… I think I may honestly be an introvert. Or possibly this pandemic and isolation has changed me. Normally, I had a few good hours or days being around people… now, I’m just exhausted and need time alone to recharge, so to speak, so I’m glad they had each other to hang out with when old woman Alexandra needed a minute to catch my breath and relax. The heat also doesn’t help things. It was honestly so good to have them here, especially so soon after my trip back because after I get back from being with Josh every day to going back to my very quiet home (which you know I love!!!!), it definitely feels weird and I sometimes get in a funk. But!!! Not this time, considering I had thing 1 and thing 2 in my home doing all different type of tik toks and cool teenager things… lord help us.

The first day we went all around downtown and got lunch and dessert… first off, I haven’t been downtown since when I first moved here, due to the mask ordinance and just the fact that I haven’t really had a good excuse to go, and didn’t want to go alone, so I was excited to explore a bit! Wearing masks, everyone downtown was really great about social distancing, keeping their masks on, and keeping things clean. Who knew one could still look cute wearing masks!! Come on people, put them on. Stop being a shit about not wearing one. (Don’t even get me started…)

So we went to a raw seafood bar, which can I say, was absolutely amazing… if you live by the ocean, OF COURSE you have to get seafood. It’s also my favorite, as I happily slurped down raw oysters, no shame. Then, dessert was across the way, where the most beautiful carrot cake was actually calling my name. Hahah the best part about living here is that because it’s so humid and hot, you’re just constantly sweating, so any weight your body intended to add quite literally rolls off of you in the form of sweat. Plus we’re in swimsuits the whole time, so gotta keep the beach body year round, right??

We were going to go to the beach after, but just as the Ozarks are, a storm randomly rolled through so we spent the day at home relaxing while it rained…a busy day downtown was enough for me, Hemy and I were plum tuckered out… we’ve been island living too long hahaha

The next day was dedicated to homework. Yeee! Honestly, it’s not terrible. I have received 100% for the past month of classes which I’m extremely proud about. School hasn’t ever really been difficult for me, mostly because I have really really fallen in love with the subjects I was learning. I’ve missed learning!!! As much as I’d rather be at the beach sometimes, I love to just sit down with my book, notebook, highlighter, and just, learn. I’m a nerd at heart and will forever be one!

So, after homework, we got ready for a night out. Last week, I was added to a group message with a about 20 girls who were all new to Charleston and looking to connect with new friends! I jumped at the opportunity which is hilarious for me because I am just not really a girls girl so to speak?? I get kinda shy about stuff like that, I know, surprising!!!! But after being without a close group of girlfriends since I moved, I was 100% down. We planned to meet at Shem Creek which is where they filmed some of the new Netflix’s show, Outer Banks (they filmed all over Charleston).. it’s a super fun area! There are a bunch of boats, restaurants, and bars all waterfront. The sunset is amazing and I’m so excited to go there again!! I met up with a few of the girls for some masked up social distanced drinks and honestly it felt so good to be out in public. And let me tell you, I thrived. It was like my social soul was depleted and being with others was charging my heart. I was sooo incredibly thankful to have a night with girls who were in the same boat as me!! And don’t you worry, we were masked up and social distancing while enjoying ourselves.

Girls night was a success but Lordy I was tired!! Finally, the last full day the girls were here, I of course had to take them to the beach, duh!! We definitely had too much fun…well they did. I decided to pass out hard for about 5 hours while the girls hung out, which was honestly super fun for me. Grandma Alexandra for the win! It’s really a beautiful thing to be happy in a relationship because I now never have to worry about impressing anyone at the beach. Amen amen!

If you’re wondering about the hurricane that was supposed to rip South Carolina apart, obviously I’m still here. What was supposed to be a Category 2 hurricane hitting us, turned into a tropical storm, which turned into a really windy and rainy thunderstorm. I think spring showers in Arkansas hit harder than yesterday did. However, the fun is just beginning!!! Here’s to a very exciting hurricane season!
Today’s Mantra:
“I AM just enjoying every day for what it is.”
